The Battle of Yorktown was one of the hardest battles for the children. A lot of the children, along with the soldiers, were either injured and/or hurt. They also missed their families terribly. But when the battle was over, when Lord Cornwallis surrendered, all of their efforts had been worth it. When the Revolutionary War was over, the children who lived in the colonies were overjoyed. Especially the ones who had served in the war. They thought that the hardships and suffering were over. They were very wrong. After the war, the economy fell in to a great economic depression. The new America didn't know how to govern themselves. They had always been dependent on King George III. Many families didn't have enough money for shelter or even food. Many of the children had to get a job to help out around their houses. One top of that, some of the children's parents or had died in the war. Some it was just one parent, while others, it was both.
